Breast cancer screening recommendations

Breast cancer prevention is a high priority at MountainView. Self-examinations and regular screenings and are essential to ongoing early detection and the most effective cure.

The American Cancer Society recommends these screening guidelines for most women:

  • Yearly mammograms—Recommend starting at 40 years old and continuing for as long as a woman is in good health.
  • Clinical breast exam—Completed about every three years for women who are 20 to 30 years old and every year for women 40 years old and older.
  • Breast self-exams (BSE)—Women should know how their breasts usually look and feel and promptly report any changes to their health care provider. BSE is an option for women starting at 20 years old.

Because of their family history, genetic tendencies or other hereditary factors, some women should have magnetic resonance imaging screening in addition to mammograms. Talk with your doctor about your history and whether you should have additional tests at an earlier age.

Schedule a mammogram

To schedule your annual screening, call Red Rock Radiology at (702) 962-7775, and our schedulers will be happy to find a convenient appointment time for you. While a doctor's order is not necessary for a screening mammogram, it is highly recommended.
