About our program

The Sunrise Health Graduate Medical Education Consortium’s Obstetrics & Gynecology Resident Training Program is part of the growing national HCA Healthcare Graduate Medical Education Program and affiliated with the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine. The OBGYN program is based at MountainView Hospital, a community hospital program providing healthcare to a diverse and expanding population in Las Vegas, Nevada. Our goal is to train the next generation of obstetrician-gynecologists to meet the changing demands of medicine in the 21st century, to become outstanding clinician-surgeons who practice humanistic medicine and are prepared to enter careers in private, public or academic organizations.

Highlights

  • Integrated Core Faculty-Resident Practice with 24/7 ob hospitalists covering labor and delivery and emergency department consults
  • On-campus Resident Clinic providing longitudinal continuity clinic supervised and attended by our faculty members.
  • Outpatient procedures: including hysteroscopy, cystoscopy, LARC placement, endometrial biopsies, and other minor procedures.
  • Longitudinal Continuity Clinic with a community faculty mentor, integrated into their private practice during your residency
  • Bootcamp: 2-week experience for our incoming interns. During this time, we focus on providing the basics to help transition our newest team members to the resident experience. With the support of faculty, residents, and hospital staff we provide exposure to the various areas we work in (L&D, OR, resident clinic, etc.) as well as provide some essentials of our daily experience (knot-tying, topic reviews).

Surgical and obstetrical training

  • Formal curriculum and simulation training in Robotic Surgery and Minimally Invasive Surgery
  • Workshops and simulation training for operative vaginal delivery, breech delivery, shoulder dystocia, emergency cesarean, hypertensive crisis
  • Formal curriculum and training in OBGYN ultrasound following AIUM curriculum

  • Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery/Urogynecology

  • Maternal-Fetal Medicine
  • Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility

Research

  • Our program offers a research curriculum program that is introduced during the intern year. This program provides an opportunity for our interns and residents to get a jumpstart on their required research program

Program Vision

The Sunrise Health Graduate Medical Education Consortium’s OBGYN residency program’s vision is to offer an environment in which outstanding clinician-surgeons who practice humanistic medicine and are well prepared to enter careers in public, private and academic organizations are developed.

The Sunrise Health Graduate Medical Education Consortium’s OBGYN Residency Program provides an environment in which residents will have the opportunity to interact with experienced academic faculty who will, in a friendly and compassionate environment, teach exceptional clinical skills.

PGY-1 Interview Season

We are delighted to announce interviews for four PGY-1 positions. Qualified applications from osteopathic and allopathic students will be considered through the ERAS system. Due to the high volume of applicants all correspondence should be by email.

OBGYN Eligibility Requirements

Interviews are by invitation only for applicants possessing the following criteria:

LCME Graduate Eligibility Criteria

Graduate from a U.S. medical school with a satisfactory medical record

A minimum of 3 letters of recommendation:

  • 1 from specialty department chair
  • 2 from faculty within the specialty

USMLE Step I and II

“Pass” on all pre-clinical courses & core clerkships; at first attempt; USMLE Step 1 and 2 score greater than 210 on first attempt

Proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident

Medical school graduate within 3 years of entering residency; to include valid explanation of gap or completed internship

AOA Graduate Eligibility Criteria

Graduate from a U.S. osteopathic school with a satisfactory medical record

A minimum of 3 letters of recommendation:

  • 1 from specialty department chair
  • 2 from faculty within the specialty

USMLE Step I & II (Preferred) or COMLEX USA I & II

“Pass” on all pre-clinical courses & core clerkships; at first attempt; USMLE Step 1 and 2 score greater than 210 on first attempt preferred or COMLEX 1 & 2 score greater than 500

Proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident

Medical school graduate within 3 years of entering residency; to include valid explanation of gap or completed internship

International Graduate Eligibility Criteria

Medical school graduate within 3 years of entering residency; to include valid explanation of gap or completed internship

Current ECFMG certification

Diploma from accredited college of medicine

USMLE Step I and II

Proof of U.S Citizenship or US Permanent Resident

Frequently asked questions

Interview Process for PGY-1 Positions

  • Applications will only be accepted through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service) from the AAMC (American Association of Medical Colleges) and participate in the NRMP (National Resident Match Program).
  • Applications open on September 15th each year.
  • After review of applications, invitations to interview will be sent to qualified applicants through ERAS along with scheduling instructions.
  • The OBGYN Residency Program will interview 32 applicants for 4 PGY-1 positions. They are scheduled Friday mornings during the months of November and December.
  • All scheduled interviewees will also be invited to attend a meet and greet dinner Thursday evening.
  • Because of the high volume of applicants during the interview season, all correspondence will be sent via e-mail.
