MountainView's Patricia Frist Memorial Scholarship winner

HCA Healthcare awards Patricia Frist Memorial Scholarships to help support the educational goals of our colleagues and their family members. In order to help dependents of HCA Healthcare colleagues pursue two or four-year post-secondary undergraduate degrees, the HCA Healthcare Foundation established a merit-based scholarship program in 2019.

This year, a MountainView Hospital employee’s child was awarded a Patricia Frist Memorial Scholarship!

Jennifer F.’s, PT, DPT, daughter, Alyssa, was one of 20 national recipients of this year’s scholarship!

Jennifer, Alyssa’s mom, has been a MountainView colleague for 15 years.

“I feel very grateful to work for an organization that understands the importance of education and is willing to give to the next generation to help them pursue their future career. With three children already in college and one more starting next year, this scholarship definitely helps to lessen the financial burden on our family,” Jennifer said. "Care Like Family" really rings true and I cannot say thank you enough to the HCA Healthcare Foundation.”

Alyssa is in her senior year at UNLV and is pursuing a degree in nursing. Alyssa has always had a passion for science. As she navigated her way through college, she discovered that she cared deeply about giving back to her community. With the tragedy of the covid 19 pandemic she began to feel a calling to a healthcare career. As a nurse, she believes that she will be able to provide comfort as well as education to best support patients and their families in their time of vulnerability.

Alyssa is a volunteer research assistant at a local hospital. She is the philanthropy vice president of the Literate Earth Project at UNLV, which aims to build libraries in underserved communities in Uganda.

She has volunteered for the Serving Our Kids Foundation which provides weekend meal bags to children in Southern Nevada that would otherwise go hungry. She also is an ambassador for STEM outreach in the Las Vegas community.

The scholarship program was renamed the Patricia Frist Memorial Scholarship in 2021 to honor the late Patricia Frist, a longtime philanthropist in Nashville, Tennessee, and wife of HCA Healthcare co-founder Dr. Thomas Frist Jr. Through this program, eligible dependents of HCA Healthcare colleagues can receive merit-based higher education scholarships of up to $5,000 a year.

Since the scholarship program’s inception, 3,367 one-year scholarships totaling more than $11 million have been awarded to eligible dependents of full- and part-time HCA Healthcare colleagues pursuing post-secondary undergraduate education.
