MountainView Hospital announced today it received accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for its Transitional Year residency program for 13 residents.

The MountainView Hospital / University of Nevada School of Medicine Transitional Year Residency Program will have 13 positions available the first year. The first Transitional Year residents will join MountainView beginning July 2017. This accreditation brings the total number of residency positions available at the hospital, among its accredited graduate programs, to 104 positions.

ACGME is a private, non-profit organization that evaluates and accredits graduate medical education (GME) programs. Specialized training in Transitional Year GME residency programs takes place over a one-year period that is required prior to starting an advanced residency in a specialty, such as radiology, anesthesiology, etc. The transitional year is structured to give residents broad exposure to the basic areas of medicine to provide fundamental skills training.

“The continued growth and success of MountainView Hospital’s Graduate Medical Education program demonstrates the commitment of the hospital and our community physicians,” said Jeremy Bradshaw, MountainView Hospital Chief Executive Officer. “The Transitional Year residency program will serve to strengthen medical education in southern Nevada and attract new physicians to our community.”

The Transitional Year Residency Program accreditation marks another important milestone for MountainView Hospital’s Graduate Medical Education department and is the fourth accreditation for a residency program received by the hospital. MountainView Hospital launched its Graduate Medical Education program in 2015 with the accreditation of its Internal Medicine Residency Program from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Since that time, MountainView has received accreditation for General Surgery, OB-GYN.
