MountainView Hospital hosted the national Association for Hospital Medical Education (AHME) Academy in Las Vegas this week. This is the first AHME Academy held in southern Nevada.
The conference, Feb. 27 at MountainView Hospital’s recently finished Medical Office Building II, featured local and national speakers with a focus on resident and medical education. The conference attracted participants locally and from around the country.
Additionally, the conference featured a resident physician breakout poster session, organized by the Clark County Medical Society (CCMS). This poster session featured 34 posters and abstracts representing many of the Las Vegas Valley’s Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs. This is a collaboration of CCMS, the University of Nevada Reno – School of Medicine, Valley Health Systems and MountainView Hospital.
The goal of the poster session it to develop a collaborative community environment that recognizes the clinical research being performed in Las Vegas by residents across all GME programs. Current medical students from Nevada’s medical schools were also invited to take part in the conference, with a session focused on the transition from medical student to resident physician.
“MountainView Hospital is honored that we can host the AHME conference on our campus,” said Jeremy Bradshaw, Chief Executive Officer, MountainView Hospital. “This conference, along with the Poster Session featuring residents from all of Las Vegas’ GME programs, shows the growing importance of graduate medical education in southern Nevada and the shift in culture surrounding medicine in our community.”
Dr. Darren Swenson, Vice President, Graduate Medical Education, HCA Far West Division, said: “HCAs commitment to GME is founded on innovation, quality of care, and contributing to our communities. The AHME Academy is an example of our commitment to Graduate Medical Education in Las Vegas by promoting and recognizing the innovative clinical research being performed by our resident physicians, as they seek to improve health care for their patients in Southern Nevada.
