MountainView Hospital April 29, 2016

MountainView Hospital was honored at the 18th Annual Silver Syringe Awards for its efforts in its employee flu vaccination campaign and community education.

MountainView received the Outstanding Influenza Immunization Program award for Southern Nevada for our efforts to vaccinate employees and raise awareness about the importance of getting a flu vaccine.

The MountainView team generated excitement internally by creating a super hero campaign with the hospital’s education nurses and by using fun social media posts of employees, volunteers and physicians to create excitement and awareness.

MountainView also received an award for having more than 90 percent of its employees vaccinated against influenza.

“We are honored to have received the Outstanding Influenza Immunization Program award for Southern Nevada,” said Chris Mowan, MountainView Hospital CEO. “Our employees are not only dedicated to the safety of our patients, but to each other and the community. That commitment is demonstrated in our high influenza vaccination rates.”

The single best way to protect against the flu is to get vaccinated each year. Everyone 6 months and older should get vaccinated.

It is estimated that in the United States, each year on average 5% to 20% of the population gets the flu and more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from seasonal flu-related complications, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Flu seasons are unpredictable and can be severe. Up to 49,000 people die from the flu each year in the U.S., according to the CDC.
