February 13, 2012
Las Vegas, Nev. (February 13, 2012) – MountainView Hospital is pleased to announce that last week Dr. Francis Teng performed Nevada’s first robotically-assisted Bariatric surgery in the hospital’s operating room. MountainView Hospital is a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence, and Dr. Teng is the Medical Director for MountainView’s Surgical Weight Loss Center.
"We are excited to be able to offer robotically-assisted Bariatric Surgery to our patients," said Will Wagnon, Chief Executive Officer of MountainView Hospital. "We are dedicated to providing our community with the latest advancements in minimally invasive surgery."
"It is a pleasure to provide advanced laparoscopic surgery for patients in Las Vegas," said Dr. Teng.
MountainView Hospital launched its Robotic Surgery Program last summer, which includes the advanced technology of a da Vinci Si HD Surgical System - the first of its kind in Nevada.
Robotically-assisted surgery is a minimally invasive approach that can be used to treat a number of medical conditions, including prostate, colon, throat and gynecologic cancer.
Some of the benefits of robotically-assisted surgery for patients include:
- Less pain
- Less blood loss
- Shorter recovery time (a faster return to normal daily activities)
- In many cases, better clinical outcomes
- Robotic surgery is covered by most insurance
The da Vinci robot provides surgeons with unparalleled precision, dexterity and control that enable a minimally invasive approach for many complex surgical procedures.
